Nonsuch is a cat boat. And this Catboat has been described as the better mousetrap. Did it cause sailors to beat a path to our door? You bet it did and they still do. A good idea is a good idea. Since 1850 and for over 100 years thereafter, the new England catboat was the family daysailer and the utilitarian workboat. Long admired for it's simple and unpretentious manner, the catboat has prevailed.

Nonsuch was designed on this premise of simplicity. She has a catboat shape and a catboat rig. Her unstayed mast is stepped in the bow. Nonsuch has one sail, one sheet and one halyard. She can be sailed by one person from the security of the large dry cockpit. This catboat shape, long on the water for speed, and wide for stability creates space for voluminous accommodations below. Catboats have always been this way however, Nonsuch is deeper, higher and a lot faster. We suggest you contact us for the HOW and WHY of Nonsuch. We will be happy to forward this special booklet. This explains how technological advances in materials, structures and systems have been designed to make the beloved catboat even better - a modern sailing machine.

Over 1,000 Nonsuch sailboats have been built, mostly during the eighties. They were built by Hinterhoeller Yachts. It is generally conceded that George Hinterhoeller built the best production sailboats in North America. These sturdy, powerfully built catboats have crossed many oceans and are appreciated today as boats that hold their value, are easyto maintain and fun to sail.

Five sizes of Nonsuch catboats have been built over the years. They are shown here sailing. Also please note the accommodations plan for each model. Please contact us for a complete brochure on each or any size Nonsuch.

The International Nonsuch Association has grown into one of the largest and most active class associations anywhere. Boasting a membership approaching the number of boats sailing today, this association is actively producing international newsletters and local publications. World championships have been held every other year in either New England or Canada. Local regattas, clam bakes and winter seminars are common to this enthusiastic and well-run association. The world championships have attracted nearly 100 Nonsuches in very active class racing and port to port cruising.

Eastland Yachts have commissioned nearly one-third of these wonderful boats in the U. S. over the years. We have an active brokerage department and specialize in Nonsuch. Nonsuches are brought from all over the country to Eastland Yachts, in Essex, Conn. to be displayed. It is seldom that we cannot show an excellent example of any of the models shown in this site. An appointment is appreciated.

Andy Wiggers, one of Canada's most respected yacht builders is currently building both the Nonsuch 30 and Nonsuch 33 on a custom basis. This is very exciting. These will be extraordinary yachts built exactly to customer specifications. Technical advances in materials, systems, finishes and fabrics will all be combined to give the customer a new and superior Nonsuch. Please give us a call for information.

To visit Eastland Yachts: From I-95 take Route 9 to exit 3 and follow the signs into Essex. We are on Pratt Street next to the Brewers Dauntless Shipyard.
